Quandela Unveils European Quantum Computer in North America – High Performance Computing News Analysis | in HPC

Montreal and Paris, September 12, 2024 – Quandela, a European quantum computing company, has announced the launch of its Canadian subsidiary, Quandela Canada, in Montreal. This is accompanied by the deployment of the first European computer in North America, according to the company, the Bellevue Data Center managed by Eaxion, a subsidiary of Groupe EDF.

This operation is a major step forward in realizing the partnership signed in November 2023 between Quandela and Exaion.

The opening of this subsidiary comes as the IEEE Quantum Week (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) is being held in Montreal, and serves as an example of the recent relationship with Quantum players in Quebec and Canadian companies. This move confirms Quandela’s commitment to be a key player in this dynamic ecosystem. Based in Montreal and Sherbrooke, in the heart of the Quantum Innovation Zone, the Canadian branch will be led by David Rouxel, who has a degree in Computer Interfaces as well as an Executive MBA. A successful entrepreneur and international development expert, David brings his expertise to support Quandela’s growth in Canada.

This operation reinforces the company’s international expansion strategy. This strategy will result in the creation of quantum hubs, which are true networks of business, technology and science, designed to accelerate the industrial quantum transformation of these centers. Quandela also plans to open a new subsidiary in South Korea this fall, in addition to the progressive rollout of several more locations around the world.

The launch of Quandela’s Canadian subsidiary coincides with the strategic deployment of the first European computer in North America, installed in Exaion’s Bellevue Data Center, in collaboration with the PINQ² infrastructure, Plateforme d’innovation numérique et quntique du Québec (Digital and Quantum) Innovation Platform of Quebec). This operation marks an important step in the integration between quantum computing technology and high performance in Quebec, thus setting a new benchmark for the joint commercial offering of Quandela and Exaion.

This unique combination, created by Quandela’s quantum computer, PINQ² high-performance infrastructure (HPC) and Exaion’s hybrid HPC/quantum Cloud platform, enables the development of cutting-edge solutions tailored to the specific needs of companies. This integrated offering will enable the creation of applications that meet the complex challenges of many sectors. Potential applications include the digital simulation of industrial infrastructure using digital twins, the simulation of combustion in heat engines, and the optimization of vehicle tunnels. These innovations are likely to have a significant impact on various sectors of the economy, such as energy, cyber security, automotive, aerospace and finance.

The joint offering proposed by Quandela and Exaion is specifically designed to meet the different needs of companies. It offers comprehensive services, including team training, identification of relevant use cases, and algorithm development. These algorithms will not only be tested on Quandela’s quantum computers, but also on GPU-enhanced computers, which guarantees robust and efficient solutions.

“This Canadian subsidiary strengthens Quandela’s growing relationship with the Quebec quantum ecosystem. The launch of HPC-quantum integration offered by Exaion represents a unique value proposition for companies, and should facilitate the democratization of quantum computing by making it possible to solve increasingly complex problems in many fields. The opening of this unit also marks the beginning of our strategy to develop global quantum centers, with the aim of bringing together a community of industry, technology and research players. who are convinced that numbers are the key to solving some of the most pressing challenges facing humanity”, says Valérian Giesz, Founder and Chief Operating Officer of Quandela.
